C. x Alaskanum (guttatum x C. yatabeanum) x C. yatabeanum

This is a cross of Alaskanum back crossed with its parent C. yatabeanum. The name Surprise is apt because each flower comes up looking a little bit different. Like other Cypripedium of this ilk, it spreads by rhizomes. It truly looks like it belongs in the fairy garden with its dainty flowers, only an inch or so tall. Plants get to be 8 -10 inches tall and can sometimes have 2 flowers per stem. It is an easy lady slipper to grow and good for beginners.

Zones 3-7. 8-10 in. Light shade, cool moist rich well-drained soil.
