Most dactylorhizas (marsh orchids) are inhabitants of moist meadows. They thrive well in sunny or semi-shady places. In spring especially, the soil should always remain evenly moist and never dry out. A location at the edge of a garden pond is just as suitable as a bed that is continually watered during prolonged dry spells. A normal garden soil is suitable.
Dactylorhiza are extremely robust garden orchids. They are very hardy, even with no protection and cover. Hybrids, in particular, quickly form impressive groups. However, care should be taken that the leaves are not wet for long periods of time. Otherwise, when planted densely, black spots can appear on the leaves caused by various fungi. If the fungus spreads unhindered, you can quickly lose plants or even the entire stock.
