This native to eastern Asia is an under-appreciated cimicifuga (actaea- now). I love the shiny dark green foliage which is different from any of the other cimicifugas we offer. It blooms late summer with spikes of creamy white flowers. This plant has a distinct smell that is released if disturbed hence the name foetida. Some think it smells a little skunky whereas others liken it to something along the lines of a bell pepper. It can be found up to 4000 ft. elevation in the Himalayas and has Medicinal uses.

Zones 3-7. 4-5 Ft. Shade or part shade, moist soil.
