This is a shorter version of the native columbine. It flowers freely over fern-like foliage resembling illuminated lanterns. It is a short lived perennial, but seeds in freely. It likes moist well drained soil, but can also tolerate drought conditions. It prefers partial shade, but can take full sun if the temperatures are cool. Unfavorable conditions like heat and drought may cause them to go dormant. Attracts bumble bees, butterflies, humming birds and other birds and insects.

Zones 3-8. 12-18 in. Part to full shade. Moist, well-drained soil.
